Minsk is the capital of Belarus. Many of its museums, theaters and other cultural attractions line Independence Avenue. Looming over this iconic plaza are massive KGB Headquarters and the neo-Romanesque Church of Saints Simon and Helena.
Near Independence Square lie the Museum of the Great Patriotic War, which commemorates the nation’s role in World War II. Venerable performance spaces include the National Academic Bolshoi Opera set in one of the city’s many parks. In the Trinity Suburb, re-created pre-war buildings and cobblestoned lanes sit beside contemporary restaurants, bars and boutiques.
