The Galápagos Islands are a group of volcanic islands located 906 km west of Ecuador. The islands are known for their large number of unique species studied by Charles Darwin.  These species lead to the creation of Darwin’s theory of evolution.

The Galápagos Islands primary language is Spanish. The islands have a population of over 25,000 with the first recorded visit occurring in 1535.  Ecuador has taken the islands from Spanish ownership in 1832.
